Jacuzzi Boys Open for Dash Rip Rock at Green Parrot Saturday

Jacuzzi Boys

The Miami garage-rock trio Jacuzzi Boys bring their '60's-inspired haze of fuzzy, Florida swamp rock to The Green Parrot for one show only on Saturday, August 14th, beginning at 9 PM.

Jacuzzi Boys' three-chord sound is not only infectious, but tight, and their onstage presence and charisma shows the hype surrounding the promising Miami trio is much deserved.

In a recent interview, Iggy Pop said: "There's a band here in Miami called the Jacuzzi Boys. It's a stupid name but they've got a good spirit. Shout out to the Jacuzzi Boys!"

Country Punksters Dash Rip Rock at Green Parrot

Great Southern Rock and Roll with a twist of the obscene!

The South's most notorious band of country drunkster-punksters, the
legendary Dash
Rip Rock, are at it again, and no Florida road trip would be complete
without a stop at The Green Parrot Bar. These psycho-billy road
warriors will explode onto The Parrot stage on Friday and Saturday,
August 13th and 14th
wyth shows at 5:30 at 10 p.m.
and will
undoubtedly blow the lid completely off the joint once again.
Dash Rip Rock Founding member Bill Davis

This George Jones on acid, Hank Williams on crack style has garnered
Dash Rip Rock fans around the country with a live show that is truly,
and perhaps thankfully, unequaled. The Parrot's manager John Vagnoni
reminds Dash's hard-core fans that there will be, "No naked drumming."
For over twenty five years Dash Rip Rock has been spreading their
haywire roots-rock mayhem all over the planet. The band has been
called - punkabilly and "country punk", but there's just no
categorizing a trio that mixes sawdust with authentic renditions of
country standards and flat out hard-core barnburners in a live show
that defies all sane or sober description. Dash Rip Rock's influences
range from the Ramones to Jerry Lee Lewis to George Jones.
Dash Rip Rock has no problem accepting their world's greatest bar band
status, for the simple fact that they feel the absolute best setting
to hear a blazing rock and roll show is usually in some dilapidated
honky tonk or a besmudged college beer hall. After years of happily
toiling in the trenches, Dash seem ready to break out and raise the
roof. With their new album, "Country Girlfriend" and sheer desperate
perseverance, the Bad Boys of the Bayou
may finally be getting their due, and their due to put on one more
heck of at show at The Green Parrot Bar.
The Green Parrot is your Southernmost Center for Culture (and we're
stretching the definition of culture with Dash Rip Rock) of every
kind, and is located at the corner of Whitehead and Southard Streets.

From Sunday's Key West Citizen:

Jim Bean, owner of the Green Parrot Bar, died suddenly at his home in Excelsior, Minnesota, on July 31, 2010.

Jim was born December 6, 1946, and after graduating from Minnetonka High School ('64) he served valiantly in the Marines during Viet Nam, receiving the Purple Heart in recognition of his combat injuries. Back in Minnesota, his love for Lake Minnetonka was poured into his business, Greenwood Marina, and his restored Hackercraft, "Perseverance."

Jim purchased The Green Parrot Bar on his birthday in 1983, using money squirreled away with dreams of building an enclosed porch on his house at the lake. Key West benefited greatly by his decision to go with the bar and not the porch.

With his wife Linda, they then began their love affair with the very local and sometimes rowdy corner saloon. While he was constantly upgrading the 120-year-old building, he never forgot that what gave The Parrot its universal appeal was keeping the local color intact and keeping what he referred to as the “salty” characters coming back. Jim relished the time he spent rubbing elbows with his customers, especially on the slower nights when he could simply enjoy the jukebox and a few games of 9-ball. Those who were fortunate enough spend time with him on those nights quickly went from being patrons to becoming dear friends.

He could not have been prouder when, in 2000, Playboy Magazine named The Green Parrot one of “The Best Bars in America,” stating that “The search for the definitive Key West Saloon ends at James Bean’s Green Parrot where…the management works tirelessly to avoid progress.” His famous passion for music can still be felt throughout the saloon, from the live entertainment, to the signed guitars on the walls, to the albums that he selected for the jukebox.
His passion for people and a boundless zest for life made him friends where ever he went.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Minnie Lee; parents-in-law, Charles and Borgie Britzius; and sister-in-law, Carrie Willette. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 38 years, Linda; son, Aaron; daughter, Morgan; daughter-in-law to-be, Angela Pehle; brothers, Thomas (Janice), Robert (Kathryn); and brothers-in-law, Fred (Sue), Dale (Paulette), Scott (Carol), Glenn (June).
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Mt.
Calvary Church, 301 County Rd 19, Excelsior (952-474-8893). Just like Jim, casual attire
is suggested. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service at the church on
Wednesday. Huber Funeral & Cremation Services Excelsior Chapel 952-474-959

A Sad Day At The Parrot

It is terribly difficult to let all of you know that The Green Parrot will be closed today in honor of Jim Bean, who passed away last evening as a result of a sudden heart attack.

John thanks everyone for their concern, and will keep everyone informed as to the arrangements being made in Minnesota, and what we will be doing here in KW to honor Bean's memory. The Parrot will re-open Mon at 10am.

To the entire family, we send our most sincere condolences.
