Vikings, Eagles among winners in race to playoffs

Ryan Longwell's 50-yard field goal with 5 seconds remaining in the game clinched the N.F.C. North for the Vikings (10-6)
Minnesota needed the last-gasp field goal to book a playoff berth versus wild-card Philadelphia next week in Minneapolis. Philadelphia pummelled Dallas to punch their postseason ticket on a hectic final day of the National Football League regular season.
Eleven teams started the day in contention for the five remaining spots in the 12-team postseason.
They included San Diego and Denver, who faced each other in a clash to decide the AFC West division crown on Sunday night.
The Vikings got the ball rolling with a 20-19 victory over the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants, Ryan Longwell booting a 51-yard field goal as time expired for Minnesota.
The Vikings, who came into the day needing only to win to clinch the NFC North division title, rallied from a 19-10 fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Giants, who had already won their division and secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, who turned in a 67-yard touchdown run, rushed for a total of 103 yards and became the first Viking to claim an NFL rushing title.
He finished the season with 1,760 yards, the 20th-highest total in league history.
"Celebrate tonight, have a little fun, and come back to work on Tuesday," Peterson said of the Vikings' upcoming first-round playoff clash with Philadelphia.

Having rebounded from a 5-5-1 start, often-maddening Philadelphia (9-6-1) will travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings in the National Football Conference wild-card round.

How 'bout them Cowboys!

Dallas (9-7), which had Super Bowl aspirations, goes home early and embarrassed. The team’s owner, Jerry Jones, must decide if he wants a new coach to usher in a new stadium next season. The Cowboys have lost six straight games to the Eagles in December and have lost every regular-season finale since 1999.

Eagles stomp Cowboys 44-6 to clinch playoff berth
Donovan McNabb flexed his muscles, seemingly mocking Terrell Owens. The always stoic Andy Reid played cheerleader, encouraging the crowd to make noise.
Many fans may not want the quarterback or coach back for another season. But they'll be here for at least one more game — a playoff game.
The Philadelphia Eagles overcame daunting odds to capture an NFC wild-card spot with a dominating 44-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
The Eagles will play at NFC North champion Minnesota (10-6) next weekend.
So much for all that preseason Super Bowl hype — America's Team can start its vacation plans early. Surely, it'll be a drama-filled offseason, as owner Jerry Jones has to answer more questions about coach Wade Phillips' job and perhaps consider a major overhaul.
In a game that become do-or-die for both teams shortly before kickoff, the Eagles (9-6-1) thoroughly outplayed the error-prone Cowboys (9-7) in every facet. McNabb threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, and Brian Dawkins forced two fumbles that were returned for scores.
Written off after a 10-3 loss at Washington last week, Philadelphia avoided elimination when Oakland upset Tampa Bay and Houston beat Chicago in the early games. The Raiders were 13-point underdogs against the Buccaneers, who lost their fourth straight.
Of all the teams that remained in contention for a playoff berth entering the final weekend, the Eagles had the lowest odds. Meanwhile, Dallas knew all week it just had to win to get in.

Eagles fans had plenty to celebrate before the game. Losses by Tampa Bay and Chicago meant the Birds could clinch a playoff berth by beating Dallas
How 'bout them Cowboys!

Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber (24) fumbles the ball as he is hit by Philadelphia Eagles Brian Dawkins and Joselio Hanson (21) recovers during the third quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, in Philadelphia. Hanson ran the ball for a touchdown

Entering Sunday’s game, a playoff berth seemed remote for Philadelphia. But the unexpected happened when Tampa Bay lost at home to Oakland and Houston defeated Chicago. Handed renewed hope, the Eagles did not fumble it away as they had often done this season. Instead, Philadelphia dominated in ways familiar and unfamiliar while Dallas submitted meekly.

"The Alliens", Spawn of "The Survivors", Invade Parrot.

"Yes, they've landed. There is no runnin, hidin, cryin, or tryin to
change your fate."

Allien Zeph (left) atttempts to turn Pat (right)into a pod person but it appears The Brotherman, scoffing, is having none of it.

With shows scheduled at 5:30 P.M.Sunday, December 21st, and 9:00 P.M Monday and Tuesday, December 22nd and 23rd, The Alliens land and
make their much anticipated return to The Green Parrot.
The Alliens are the Spawn of Woody and Din Allen, two of the founding
members of the Survivors, the legendary Key West quintet, who, playing
jazz, reggae, and calypso blends have been a fixture in the
alternative-lifestyle culture in Key West since 1977.
Survivors' singer and guitarist Din Allen is father of The Alliens'
percussionist Janiah and Alliens' keyboardist & trumpeter Jamiel,
while Survivors' multi-instrumentalist Woody Allen is Alliens'
guitarist Zeph's father.
Specializing in the Abduction of All Motor Skills, World-funk is one
way to define the Alliens. You won't walk away from an Alliens show
without hearing Afrobeat, cumbia and reggae being bounced around
inspired rock jamming, in the latin-reggae-funk-fusion style called
Allienation.
Most of all, expect the desire to dance and if symptoms persist, you
have officially been Allienated.

Snow in New Orleans--February 12th, 1958

Snow in New Orleans

We got a call from A-ron, the bassist/mandolin player from eric lindell's band this morning."..hey man, it's snowing here...for real, well, yea, it's comin' down hard...WTF"

Check out these palms...let's see a follow up video in a few weeks

NOLA Snow

On Bienville Street, a sight not often seen…
A Gringa in New Orleans blog has more photos.

A few more snow shots here.
The last snowfall in the New Orleans area was on Christmas Day in 2004. Before that, 1989 was the last significant snowfall.

The sight is so rare that many children were seeing snow for the first time, and adults were seeing it for the first time in years.

Suenalo explodes on to The Green Parrot Stage

Suenalo, the Miami-based10-piece Afro-Latin-funk-jam band will
explode on to The Green Parrot Stage with its polyrhythmic display of
funk, mambo, hip-hop, and jam-band-style playino
Friday and Saturday, December 12 and 13th, beginning at 10 P.M.

Green Parrot patrons will be dancing, twisting and shouting for two
pelvis-grinding nights as Suenalo brings a their 10-piece funk /
afro-beat / jam band to the Parrot stage.
Any Parrot patron present for Suenalo's Parrot debut earlier this
year will remember a barrage of
music that's simultaneously Afro-Cuban, Dominican hip-hop, R&B,
Latin-Funk, Cuban Rhumba, and Colombian Cumbia
Suenala promises to
have Parrot dancers on their feet till the wee hours.

Created in 2002 in the vibrant neighborhood of Little Havana, Suénalo
has won legions of loyal fans and recently garnered Best Local Latin
Rock Band honors from the Miami New Times.

Suénalo Sound System is a true musical melting pot, with members who
hail from Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, France, and
different parts of the United States.

Dubbed by Miami's New Times as the source of Miami's best new spin on
rock, Latin or otherwise, the group's 10 members form a multicultural
cocktail, a crashing
wave of African beats, reggae, dancehall, and samba that makes Suenalo
one of the most ecclectic bands to emerge from Miami in years.

.. Outgoing lead singer Itagui Corea is Colombian; incoming Amin
DeJesus is Miami-Dominican. Drummer and singer Fabio Patiño is
Mexican; conga player Alan Ramos is Puerto Rican; keyboardist Tony
Laurencio and sax player Juan Turros are Miami Cubans; guitarists Phil
Maranges and Gerard Glecer are New York Cuban and Massachusetts
French, respectively. Chicago's man in Suenalo is trombonist Chad
Bernstein. Other cities, states, and nations may not have a guy in
this band, but they are there in spirit: The ensemble employs rhythms
from Brazil to Jamaica, including samba, cumbia, rumba, son, hip-hop,
and reggae. "We're mainly focusing on fusing Afro-beat and Latin
rhythms with funk and rhythm and blues," Maranges says.

Melded with horns and gyrating, wah wah-peddled guitars Suénalo's
celebratory jam session becomes an addictive fusion of Afro-Latino
rhythms and American funk that makes one jump in joyful praise.

Astute Parrot regulars will recognize Suenalo's trombone player, Chad
Berstein, as the conch shell virtuoso/trombone player in the Spam
Allstars' horn section when they blew the doors off the place last
month.

The Green Parrot Bar is your Southernmost Center for Culture of All
Kinds, at the corner
of Whitehead and Southard Streets. For additional information call The
Green Parrot at 294-6133.
