Went in this guy Rick's balloon today

Outside of Taos, New Mexico
We hadn't heard from Buco, our wandering greengrocer-turned-biker in some time and we were starting to worry but I'm sure if he's in Taos, he's with our former bartenders Eric and Terri, and as you can see from this picture of Eric at his best, what possibly is there to worry about...

Pez Garden
I've never quoted the Citizen's Voice in spite of seeing some extremely quotable, albeit unattributed, zingers in the daily Citizen feature, but, without choosing any sides in the Sonny McCoy International Airport brouhaha, I couldn't pass up this contribution which featured a spot-on description of the Sculpture Garden at Mallory Square I'd never heard before.

Citizen's Voice, October 15th:"Sonny McCoy's self-commissioned bust could be contributed to the 'Pez Garden' by Mallory Square! Then it's not a waste. After all, he already has a 'Pez' bust on the KW Golf Club's first tee box."

SpamAllstars to Headline Goombay Weekend at Green Parrot
Blending latin, funk, hip hop and dub, The SpamAllstars make their
highly anticipated return to The Green Parrot for two
pelvis-grinding nights on Friday and Saturday October 17th and
18th beginning at 10 P.M.
Returning to Key West as part of The Green Parrot's
cultural contribution to the Goomay Weekend and also to celebrate the
release of their fifth CD –"electrodomésticos", it is safe to say
that you may never seen a band like this on The Parrot stage before.
Well known in Miami for their innovative sound, the SpamAllstars
have become the true Miami sound machine, giving South Florida a
premium blend of nostalgic, obscure, and retro sounds which has been
described as retro-Cuban and even as deconstructed rumba.
A self-described descarga or Cuban jam session,, DJ Le Spam and the
SpamAllstars are a unique ensemble creating their own niche on the
national music landscape with a prolific recording routine and over
200 show dates a year.
Deftly combining the live performance of his stage mates with a
cornucopia of electronically-evoked samples, DJ Le Spam (Andrew
Yeomanson) projects a distinctly modern voice, resonate of Miami's
very Latin and urban soundtrack.
Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, the New York Times, Washington
Post, DownBeat, The Village Voice and Newsweek all praised their 2002
album Fucata Live!,and it was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2003.
SpamAllstars were surprised and proud of this achievement considering
that the album had been recorded live to a CD burner during one of
their weekly shows at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana.
In 2004 came the opportunity to collaborate and tour with Vida Blues'
Illustrated Band featuring Page McConnell (Phish), Oteil Burbridge
(Allman Brothers Band/Aquarium Rescue Unit) and Russell Batiste (Funky
Meters). The two bands recorded and toured as a 10-piece ensemble,
with a legendary performance at Bonnaroo. In November of the same year
a DVD of their Fillmore West collaboration was released worldwide.
Spam continues to revisit the far-flung fans picked up along the way,
mounting regular excursions up the Eastern Seaboard, west to
California and abroad.
SpamAllstars have appeared on Good Morning America, Mun2's The Roof,
CBS This Morning, NPR's All Things Considered, CBS-4's Making of the
Latin Grammy's, NBC 6's Trendtrackers, and a variety of regional and
international radio programs.
The Green Parrot is Your Southernmost center for Culture of All
Kinds located at the corner of Southard and Whitehead streets. For

Buco leaving Las Vegas
A great shot of the strip,

I want to post this great shot now even though it will leapfrog a few of his other pictures. They have been coming in clusters and flurries along with an occasional youtube video of lumberjacking or goldmining, and I've been posting them as best I can...well some of us still have to work.....

Shinin' Like A Diamond in a Goat's Ass
With the island plunged into darkness due to a major power outage and the highly anticipated vice-presidential debate looming....The Parrot became a beacon in the night....

and thanks to our generator and Beaver and Jim stepping into the breech by hacking into to our NFL Sunday Ticket Direct TV Box we were able to show the debate to the desperate political junkies in the neighborhood who seemed to come out of the woodwork.

and prove once again that The Parrot is indeed the Cultural Hub of Key West.

Key West Waterspout circa 1970's
Since we're on the subject of waterspouts here's a reprise of an earlier post that features a waterspout photo I took in the early '70's.

I spotted this waterspout from the second floor balcony of my United Street apartment. I bolted down the stairs and ran the two blocks down Duval Street to the concrete pier at South Beach and got lucky.
I say lucky because the whole thing only lasted a few minutes before that undulating funnel cloud, an image worthy of Cecil B. DeMille's Ten Commandments, dissolved, and lucky because I only had two high speed ektachrome transparencies frames left on my Minolta SRT 101. (That info should pretty well date this photo).
