Spam Allstars 4/20 Show

Found Photo:"Pat w/Conch Republic Flag"

In this undated, unattributed photo, with ballpoint inscription, The Brotherman, Conchtown Banner proudly unfurled, seems to be looking beyond the Blue Horizon, his gaze fixed upon both the Glorious Past and the Bright Future of our Island City.
Or maybe he just woke up.

Jimbo Mathus Photos on Flickr

It seems everyone is using a flickr account to save, organize and post their photos these days.
I thought I'd get in the swim so here's my first effort.
Fairly painless,I might add, although somehow I got an Eddie Kirkland shot mixed in with Jimbo, but I don't imagine Jimbo would mind that.

Here they are...some Jimbo Mathus photos from last Christmas that i just put on Flickr

Props to Susan Olsen

A Solares Hill: The Blog post this morning features one our our best friends and past customers, Susan Olsen, the former director of The Key West Art and Historical Society and now the now the executive director of the Friends of Woodlawn, the historic Bronx, New York cemetery.
A loyal Parrot patron, it was Susan who through her diligence and exhaustive research managed to single-handedly big-deal The National Register of Historic Places into accepting The Green Parrot.
Much of her research, I might add, was done on-site, relentlessly mining the Parrot archives, sometimes long into the night, with little or no compensation.
Oddly enough, this morning, while photographing another Green Parrot rara avis, a City of Key West Building Permit, I inadvertedly included our proudly displayed bronze National Registry of Historic Places Plaque. Thanks again Susan.

Where'd Everybody Go.

Work on the awning replacement continues apace although it appears that when the lunch whistle blew Buco was left behind by his coworkers, hungry, and apparantly ladderless, on the roof .

Buco wants to know how there lunch was.

Back on the job, Buco, Building Permit (or perhaps a take-out menu) in hand, joins our team of crack preservationists Billy Adams and Tommy Owens to plan their next move.
P.S. we really do have a Building Permit.

Buskers on Whitehead Street

Green Parrot Shameless Commerce Department

You may or may not have noticed the repairs underway at The Parrot. The rising price of materials, the cost of builing permits, the added workmans's comp premiums have sent the cost of renovations spiraling out of control. In order to offset these factors we've adopted different strategies to try to get a handle on this. One such strategy is...

recruit some free labor...
Here's our old friend Buco of the Waterfront Market taking time out of his busy schedule to lend a hand.

As Buco trims some of the distressed boards from the overhang to make way for new lumber another such strategy begins to emerge...

He passes one old board down to me...and...moments later

..we have...more than a scap of wood...more than a souvenier...we have a piece of Parrot History...a unique artifact from the nineteenth century...a relic of times gone by...

But wait,wait...that's not all you get...
