Waterfront Market Dispute on Chowhound

The Chowhound Article

This post appeared on Chowhound, arguably the #1 foodie message board on the internet.

It seems the dispute between Buco and the city has more legs than your average municipal rent negotiation.

Let's keep the ball rolling to see that the word spreads that this guy is about to get reamed by the city fathers.

Call or email your city commisioners. Let's give Buco some of the help that he has always offered all of us over the last 25 years. The list of the people and organizations he has donated time, labor and product to is a long one.

Send some emails in support to:

(Be nice, please)

Thanks in advance. It's important that we help. Surely any of you who have visited our Island share our concern that we're not corporatized to the max, which is where this is heading.

Albert Castiglia/Graham Drout Sunday Soundcheck or "No Cover, No Minimum, No Wanda"

Albert and Graham put on one of the most memorable sounchecks yet.
To say they connected with the audience is an understatement. The combination of their virtuosity, their choice of material and their warmth made for a great musical experience. Today's eclectic set list included some Dylan, "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" and "Like a Rolling Stone", some Hank Williams, Van Morrison and The Band, then some Hendrix on request, and then ripped through the best cover of The Byrds "Hey Mr. Spaceman" since The Holy Modal Rounders..

The Voodoo duck looks over the crowd.

Wanda feels comfotable enough to get onstage, wish Whitey another Happy Birthday, and declare again her true love for her man. Albert, on behalf of all present, seconds that emotion.

More Albert

Albert has changed guitars today going to a Gibson Flying V that warrants a new photo plus some other stage shots from the Saturday Matinee.
Albert continues to heat up the Parrot stage delivering one strong set after another.
Opening this afternoon w/ Walkin' Blues, adding some Albert and Freddie King, some Buddy Guy and some seemingly unlikely but extremely compelling and well received covers (The Band's Up on Cripple Creek and The Weight; Van Morrison's Tupelo Honey), added "The Thrill is Gone" and then tossed off a Stevie Ray encore to a super-enthusiastic mostly local crowd.
I think Albert's brilliant, heady blues chops sometimes may make people overlook both his versatility and his command of not only the blues canon but also that of rock, nailing songs today, among others, that we thought we only wanted to hear Levon Helm or Rick Danko sing.

Albert Castiglia

Albert, smirking or serious, as always, blew the room away.

Happy Birthday, Whitey!

Today's Whitey's Birthday, "The Original Mo'", "without him there would be No Mo'..."
Happy Birthday and we're sure that today he's doin "Pretty Good, Not Bad..." oh well, you know the rest.

I thought I'd include something from our yellowed archives that I coincidentally stumbled across just yesterday when excavating in my office,

Here Comes Jack

Ready for his introduction into Key West Society, Tony delivers Jack.

A closer look reveals many of the details incorporated into Jack's persona.

Jack and Tony

Artist Tony Gregory has taken a keen interest in the Parrot's entry in the "Paint The Jack" contest, almost playing Gepetto to Jack Daniels' Pinocchio.
Here Tony ponders what last-minute touches to apply the statuette of the venerable distiller.

Here, more remiscent of something from a "Chuckie" movie, Jack seems to be pondering something of his own. Look out behind you Tony!

The Hellhounds Kick Start Bike Week at The Parrot

Sporting all their Jack Daniels attire West Palm Beach-based blues rockers The Hellhounds play the first of the 5 weekend shows at The Parrot.

Key West Magazine to Feature Parrot Memorobilia.

Kim, a photographer from Key West magazine was in yesterday to take some photos for an upcoming article on the various memorobilia and ephemera that cover the walls of the Green Parrot. The article should be in October's issue, featuring a sidebar on some of Buco and the boys' infamous group halloween costumes.

"Poco Loco", Eric and Terri's General Store

Here's Kenny visiting Eric Bissel at the general store that Eric has established with his wife Terri in Carson, New Mexico, just outside of Taos. Eric and terri were both former Parrot bartenders who lived right next door to the bar before heading out for new adventures in Taos and Bocas del Toro, Panama. A close look shows that Kenny is presenting Eric with a "One Human (Humid) Family sticker.

A view of the store from the highway. Kenny says it's like a smaller version of The Waterfront Market (sans waterfront, obviously) featuring staples, organic vegetables, gourmet foods, a deli, and pizza on weekends.
He better put his green chile with pork on the menu, because even in the land of green chile with pork it's a killer recipe.
As for his rum-spiked watermelon, maybe keep it of the chalkboard, but most certainly under the counter.

For those that forget Eric's mug. This was his last night on the job I believe.
